Last year we celebrated Nicholas' birthday with his first Dynamo game. This year, we celebrated with the Dynamo game - the sold out LA Galaxy game with David Beckham! Yup, he made it to Houston this year!
Thank goodness he had his name on his shirt! I almost didn't recognize him with all the facial fuzz! But, he must have known it was Nicholas' birthday and grew the scruffy face in his honor.
I think it's neat before each match, the players are escorted onto the field by members of the local youth soccer teams. Can you imagine escorting David Beckham on the field?! I'd probably drool myself silly.
My favorite photo taken with my phone so far... Nicholas up in the tree house out at Jenny & CJ's. Definitely a must-have for any household. I think we're going to have to have a treehouse built when we buy a house. Which I think means we need a house with a big tree in the back. It would also be helpful if the tree wasn't uncomfortably close to some crazy neighbors. Oo, and we gotta have the dual purpose fire/stripper pole. Yes.
Our first trip of the year was to Galveston. It was warm enough to go walk long the seawall and we had not been down since the sandcastle competition in May. The fog was surprisingly thick as we turned on to the seawall and it stayed thick pretty much the whole day!
This is what's left of Murdoch's Bath House on the seawall four months after Ike. The fog made it just a little creepy. The bench in the picture probably came from the Hooters that used to be next door.
Nicholas got a picture with what was left of the building. I like how this one turned out.
There were two cruise ships docked this evening. We watched from the Starbucks across the street as the traffic started piling up for people share a tale, a tale of a fateful trip about to start from this tropic port, aboard these ginormous ships.
My company entered the AIA Sandcastle Competition this year out on Galveston's East Beach. Nicholas and I sketched out the design of a simplistic downtown Houston skyline and a ball representing sports at the center that was unanimously selected for this year's entry. It was a theme we carried out through the t-shirt and sign designs for the team. (Nick's an expert in Illustrator now!) We definitely had the best shirts out there. Check out the rest of the photos from our build here.
Our friends Josiah and J&A came out to enjoy the experience with us bringing much needed breakfast food and sunscreens. A big thanks to you guys for spending your Saturday with us! And an extra big hug to Nicholas' family who came out to cheer us on! It made the day special.
We cut out early due to near heat-induced-coma-like conditions and recouped with some iced gulf shrimp at Galveston's oldest restaurant, Gaido's. Highly recommended.
this has got to be the longest four day week in recorded history!
the week before ended mighty well. mashimaro is getting on in mileage. on his third tank o' premium. sometime before the end of the year he will qualify for an oil change. oh they grow up so fast. nicholas and i had sushi with peeps saturday. and i woke up sunday morning to a nice surprise.
while i was getting ready for the memorial day celebration with his family, nicholas announces that it would be in his best interest to ensure my companionship for an unstated yet unlimited period of time. he then reassures me of his intention to amuse and provide during said time. and then he asks theQuestion™.
...
tada! i am officially engaged! to the cute guy from the bus stop. who knew.
monday we spent the day at galveston beach in happy-couple-mode with Munkie for a little celebration.
Our friend Alex was in town for the weekend. We had lunch at Yao's on Westheimer near Gessner and took goofy pictures at the Water Wall by the Galleria. I believe in this picture, Nick has done something questionable and Alex was confirming that it was indeed what he thought had happened.
Photographic evidence that a young Mr. Foster was officially released into the RealWorld(TM) as of December 15th. He is seen equipped with a leather folio embossed with the official seal of the university which houses documentation promising a brighter future and larger paychecks. This package is complete with a 2007 Crimson and Black tassel, standard Oakley Half Wires, and new Sambas.
