So it's been something on the order of 15 years that I've known some of my friends that I mention here. Friends from my days living in Austin and attending UT. Yesterday we commemorated the first time we sat at a dinner table as graduated and employed citizens. The past 15 years has seen quite a few ups and downs. Grad schools, just getting through school, marriages, baby scares, money woes, trips to the ER, and living just too far away.
We celebrated with dinner at my new favorite restaurant which I should write about later. A movie that everyone should see. And promises of future meetings now that we all have jobs and can travel.
this has got to be the longest four day week in recorded history!
the week before ended mighty well. mashimaro is getting on in mileage. on his third tank o' premium. sometime before the end of the year he will qualify for an oil change. oh they grow up so fast. nicholas and i had sushi with peeps saturday. and i woke up sunday morning to a nice surprise.
while i was getting ready for the memorial day celebration with his family, nicholas announces that it would be in his best interest to ensure my companionship for an unstated yet unlimited period of time. he then reassures me of his intention to amuse and provide during said time. and then he asks theQuestion™.
...
tada! i am officially engaged! to the cute guy from the bus stop. who knew.
monday we spent the day at galveston beach in happy-couple-mode with Munkie for a little celebration.
There was a gentleman playing his acoustic guitar in the grocery store the other day. His bare fingers plucking away at the strings brought back memories of my dad playing his guitar. My dad was a student back then, and playing his acoustic guitar was his way of relaxing. He would play old vietnamese ballads, songs by the Ventures and the Beatles, and lullaby's for my little brother. And ever since then, the sound of an acoustic has been very special to me. On a trip home from college, I took one of his guitars back with me, so I could play a few notes whenever I was homesick. I can't play very well at all, but it helped to make the days go by a little nicer. Like when I had to have allergy shots every other day. Dad would sing to me and play his guitar so I would forget about the ouches.
Funny how the sound of a guitar -even in a grocery store- can bring back childhood memories.
