Rockets Fans!

I've become spoiled with random tickets to the Rockets courtesy of the boss. This time we took my Rockets loving friends Caroline and TJ (aka mini yao). We brought home a win :-) If we'd gotten there a little earlier, we would've brought home kick ass ball caps, too!

Engagement Foo

Friends in Austin threw an enblingment party for our friend, the newly off the market, Miss SuziFoo. Since both Miss Foo and I were blinging, we got to wear the sexy feather boas! Everyone wore tiaras, drank delicious mimosas before noon, wiggled our butts with the wii, and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

Yes, i'm wearing a t-shirt. With another shirt underneath. I was completely unprepared for the arctic conditions in Austin. Seeing as how H-town was in the mid 70's, I had little reason to believe it would be cold anywhere within driving distance. I should probably check the weather channel more. :-)

Nicholas in Trees

Nick in a Tree House
My favorite photo taken with my phone so far... Nicholas up in the tree house out at Jenny & CJ's. Definitely a must-have for any household. I think we're going to have to have a treehouse built when we buy a house. Which I think means we need a house with a big tree in the back. It would also be helpful if the tree wasn't uncomfortably close to some crazy neighbors. Oo, and we gotta have the dual purpose fire/stripper pole. Yes.

Birthday Weekend

My birthday weekend started out with a bon voyage party for my friend Joan and her new husband Ron on Friday. They were married earlier at a ceremony in her hometown. The party was in Austin so we were looking forward to seeing her and my Austin friends.

Saturday and Sunday we spent with Jenny & CJ in San Marcos with a side trip to San Antonio. Of course, one of the best parts of the trip was meeting Miss Chicken Nugget!

Me and Miss Chicken Nugget
Chicken Nugget is a fashion model and beloved pet chicken of CJ's.

Chicken Nugget is Mexican Chicken
Here she is in the sombrero we picked up for her in San Antonio!

Mr. Darcy is Mexican Cat
And Mr. Darcy had to have his picture taken with it, too!

Hieu and Nicholas

I totally forgot to post this last month! Nicholas and I met up with CJ and Jenny at the Renaissance Festival for their Halloween weekend. Since Jenny had her camera out and clickin, we let her do most of the photography. Turns out, not only can she shoot a camera, she's quite the bow and arrow champion. :-) Pictures here... and here!

The Brass Knuckle Dream

Nichole wins the 2008 award for most creative dream. Here are the details as she posted on my space:

Hi Hieu!
I had the wackiest dream last night.

You and your fiance were hosts of a radio show and for some reason I was there watching. You two were talking and I noticed your engagement ring and wanted to see it. When I looked at it I thought it was the most beautiful thing EVER! It was a Brass Knuckle. Actually looked a little like this:

But there were only diamonds on the ring on your ring finger. Then on the side of the last ring there was a little digital clock so you could see the time. HA!!

I woke up laughing.

Gives me an idea... "mr. & mrs." diamond studded grills... oh yeah.

Friends

So it's been something on the order of 15 years that I've known some of my friends that I mention here. Friends from my days living in Austin and attending UT. Yesterday we commemorated the first time we sat at a dinner table as graduated and employed citizens. The past 15 years has seen quite a few ups and downs. Grad schools, just getting through school, marriages, baby scares, money woes, trips to the ER, and living just too far away.

We celebrated with dinner at my new favorite restaurant which I should write about later. A movie that everyone should see. And promises of future meetings now that we all have jobs and can travel.

Sand Sculpting on Saturday

Final Product
Originally uploaded by Tygriss.

My company entered the AIA Sandcastle Competition this year out on Galveston's East Beach. Nicholas and I sketched out the design of a simplistic downtown Houston skyline and a ball representing sports at the center that was unanimously selected for this year's entry. It was a theme we carried out through the t-shirt and sign designs for the team. (Nick's an expert in Illustrator now!) We definitely had the best shirts out there. Check out the rest of the photos from our build here.

Our friends Josiah and J&A came out to enjoy the experience with us bringing much needed breakfast food and sunscreens. A big thanks to you guys for spending your Saturday with us! And an extra big hug to Nicholas' family who came out to cheer us on! It made the day special.

We cut out early due to near heat-induced-coma-like conditions and recouped with some iced gulf shrimp at Galveston's oldest restaurant, Gaido's. Highly recommended.

The twins after a bath

The twins after a bath

And here they are! Mine's on the left, Nick's* is on the right.

About a month ago, Nick found his Miata at his local dealership with a killer deal. I had an 'OMG, I want one!' moment as I had been shopping for quite a while now and somehow missed the one he found. A day and many internets later, I finally found one of my very own. :)

Fast forward to this past weekend, I finally racked up enough miles to take it safely on a road trip to Round Rock to meet the twin. We convinced Nick to take his GT out for a scrubbing and photo shoot of cutesy twinky Miatae goodness!

Nick is different from Nick. Still a Nick, just not My Nick.
