Shmutz!

Natural Paws opened up a retail store near the Galleria a few weeks back and we stopped in to visit. I couldn't resist the little octopus plushie toy! It's a Chewish Dog Toy by Copa Judaica. I love that it is black! The Vietnamese word for squid and black ink is the same - it also happens to be the name of my grandma's dog. So in a roundabout way, it was meant to be. Extra cool points for having SMUTZ embroidered on it!

Wilson's first Thanksgiving

Wilson loves to travel. He's not the -best- traveler, he likes to be in the front with us and whine as if it we were the meanest parents for strapping him into the backseat. The best part of traveling, for Wilson, is the delicious meals prepared for him upon his arrival. Mom likes to spoil him and Wilbur with their own bowls of soups, freshly cooked beef, and the occasional eggroll. These are not table scraps mind you, oh no. No sir. These are freshly prepared with only the naturalest of ingredients, served in their very own porcelain bowls or plates - no plastic or stainless steel. And they're always followed up with big meaty soaked and boiled beef joints. Marrow chunks for days.

This was his first Thanksgiving with us. And we let him know we were thankful for having him in our lives. Without him, my knee pits would be cold at night, and my lint roller would be underutilized. And he's always there protecting me from the eminent dangers that lurk just outside the tub when I shower. Without him, I might be sporting the life-alert necklaces. So, thank you Wils, thank you.

Here are some of my favorite pics from the Thanksgiving Holiday at Moms.

What's this? You're wearing my hoodie?!
We also got him a matching hoodie - he loved it!

Morning Jog

morning jog

The best part of my morning is when I'm pulled into a short jog with Wilson. He loves the cool crisp morning air (and getting a chance to pee in it) and he makes me love it too! Today's jog was especially fun since he got to sport his new hoodie from Old Navy. Love it!

A Bonding Moment

Wilson in E. Austin, originally uploaded by Tygriss.

Wilson pawed at my feet. I lifted him up and he curled up into a little ball in my lap. As I patted his bottom, I asked him, "Wilson, if we were sleeping in a train station, homeless and hungry, would you share your kibble with me?"

He looks up, "Hungry? Why would we be hungry? Stop talking nonsense! You have a job, woman!"

Romp at the park and lessons learned

rico is tired after his walk at the park on Twitpic
Rico's tired after his hike on the park trail.

You don't see him here but Wilson's trying to sit on the armrest - his own makeshift center seat.

Where Wilson is a spaz, Rico will sit calmly. Where Rico is a Spaz, Wilson is a perfect angel.

Rico's "stress feature" is most likely a bug in the program. Wilson has a similar feature, we'll call it the "sleep feature" where he licks himself to sleep. Though he hasn't licked a lot lately, possibly because Rico is licking for the both of them.

Rico T. Grande

Saturday was another pug in the park day and because it is the season... Wilson went as a little ferocious dragon! Next year, he's going to have to go as a gladiator, like this other guy...

Ferocious dragon @ PugHearts meetup. on Twitpic Gladiator pug on Twitpic

And then, in walks this short little guy, in a bomber jacket ala Tom Cruise in Top Gun circa 1987. His name is Rico and he momentarily stole my heart. Rico is another PugHearts rescue who was an owner surrender at BARC. Both of his eyes were ulcerated and just on the brink of bursting when PugHearts rescued him. With a little bit of medical care, he's totally on the mend. He has a little bit of scarring on his corneas, but he sees just fine. He sat in my lap for a little bit and the next thing I knew, I was asking Nicholas if we could bring him home. Even if just to foster him for two weeks. He said yes. *grin*

Rico came home with me yesterday afternoon. He's a tiny little guy and looks to be a lot younger than I initally thought. He learned quickly that Wilson's the man of the house and has taken to following Wils everywhere. What we've learned is that Rico will bark at cats. Vivi was not impressed. Nicholas and I think it's because he sees them as small furry moving objects and not kitties and is a little scared of them. Wilson does seem to be annoyed that there's another puggie in his house, but we're not sure just yet. Rico doesn't wheeze like Wilson, but he does snore. :)

It'll be a fun two weeks, I think. We will have to see how Mr. Rico Taco Grande handles living with us.

Weekend Independence

For the big 4th of July weekend, we took off to the capital to hang out old friends and watch the fireworks over Town Lake - which I believe is now called Lady Bird Lake. There was dinner at Mangia's and scary moments with bees and other winged creatures.

The arrival...
Nicholas and I stayed at a hotel by the lake and we brought Wilson with us. He's a pretty good traveler and got to meet a couple of other doggies at the hotel.

Early morning
I really enjoyed the view in the morning and then getting to finally watch the bats come out of the Congress Street bridge when the sun went down.

Fireworks: Grand finale
And there was the awesome fireworks show over the lake.
