New York

Hee heee! My 1st real train station! I saw my 1st train, too!!

We had Board retreat out by the New Jersey Airport this past weekend. It was full day of meetings with just a couple of hours Saturday night for a quick trip to New York. Marian had a nice giggle watching me experience my first train ride. I had been in  train station in Japan, but this was differerent. This train trip involved me standing on a platform - like they do in those movies and video games. And they had those metal columns where the bad guy comes out and mows everyone down! It didn't help that it was late at night and all kinds of creepy looking.

When we got to NY, I was suprised (but not really) to see the City so busy! Kids were being dragged around by their parents, bright bright billboards like in Japan. The smell in the streets reminded me of Ho Chi Minh City. H&M was still open and it was 10pm!! Munkie and I went down to Time Square and then over to the Chrysler building.

Missing Romeo

I love when my friends see things that make them think of me :) ('86 spider)

My friend Vinny sent me this picture mail. He said the spider reminded him of me. It was a 1986 red Graduate up at a vintage car show in his neighborhood. The picture made me smile and made me a little sad. I miss my Romeo - rest in peace little buddy.

Fish Tacos

Only sharing because it's my fave: mahi mahi tacos

It wasn't until I moved to Houston that I learned of this delicious dish: the Fish Taco.  Having lived all over Texas, tacos were either soft or crunchy had ground meat or chicken... and if you were a high roller, you'd get the fajita meat. Mmmm. Back in the day, the best taco's ever were the ones from the Cabana down by the UT campus. We'd scrounge up all kinds of loose change at 2am to go grab one. Later as our budgets got bigger, we drove further... to Kirbey Lane for thier chicken soft tacos for $2.

And now... right here, right down the street, for right around $9... I have found the most delicious tacos of all, the Mahi Mahi fish taco at the Hobbit Cafe. As pictured above, they come packed with mahi mahi goodness, special sauce, that purple cabbage veggie thing, and a mango salsa. Are you drooling yet?!

They're open late, but don't push it. They get incredi-cranky about an hour before closing.

What am I gonna wear?

Wild WednesdayFashion Trends & Styles - Polyvore

Wild Wednesday by Tygriss featuring Madison Marcus tops

.............................................

Lately, I've been figuring out what I *should* have worn well after I've been at work. So, a couple of months ago I signed up for polyvore so I could keep a running "notebook of outfits".  It's also yet another free way to keep the creative juices flowing in the noggin. Can't let that stuff stagnate. Now I need to foot note, I don't have some of the high dollar items I use in the layouts, but I definitely have something close!

*note: I do not wear the pug. The pug kinda just makes me his chair. So he's more like outer wear, you could say.

Whaddyou wanna wear?

Lady Gaga

the mother monster

img 080

Lady Gaga played July 25th at the Toyota Center. We made sure to get VIP floor tickets for the up-close and personal view. And it was completely worth it.

She's an incredible artist with a wonderful singing voice. Costume changes, the flaming piano, the story telling... everything was amazing. I remember being emotionally moved by my favorite artists of all time in concert. And this... this show was just as ... amazing isn't a good enough word.

She loves her fans, her little monsters. And we love her back :) More of my pictures from the concert here.

Another Lois Visit!

And we begin "TheWeekend"

Pre-MonsterBall Bash up at Lois' place

Of course I told Pamlea about this crazy flower that's supposed to smell like rotting corpses and asked if she thought that maybe, I mean, you know, on the off chance they might wanna see such nonsense, they would like to stop by and check the Corpse Flower out....

The answer was a definite yes. Pamela and Michelle were all for it. For the week leading up to their visit, we'd stalk Lois on her webcam and Perry - another corpseflower, on his. The whole phenomenon was really quite neat. I learned a lot about these plants. Their horticulturalists were giving them personalities. They had twitter accounts. Really a bit much, if you think about it. Totally worth it to smell the smell of a corpse coming from a flower.

I literally kept myself up Thursday night, after spending the previous night at the museum till 2am, to watch the Perry flower bloom. That's the level of excitement we're talking about here.

So anyway - Friday night the girls get into town, we thought we might meet up for a trip to museum. We get our tickets for 3:45 in the morning - the earliest showing. o_O! We made our way to the late night sushi bar. Closed it down. Caffinated up at the 24hr StarBucks and made fun of the night owls in what I could only assume was their "party gear". And then stood in line at the museum to check out ... the corpse flower. Lois had bloomed early that morning. And for sure we thought we'd get a wiff of the rotting meaty goodness the news people promised.. Alas, it was only the aroma of day old garbage laying out in the sun. *sigh*

Totally worth it, though.

OMG you guys! It's Lois! She smelled like trash!

Lois!

Stink-o-Meter

Stank level 5!!!

Late night shinanigans

Nick and Me and Lois

Haa haa - our quick little arm's length photo turned out blury, but we captured what we needed to capture : nick, me and lois. Lois the Corpse Flower. She's apparently been growing right down the street from us - in the museum of natural science. We got there late Wednesday night after watching a news clippet between commercials. Stood in line for an hour. She wasn't smelly, but she was bigger than any 'flower' we'd seen.

Totally looked forward to smelling a corpse. Didn't happen.
