You are getting sleepy...
Nothing like a pile of pugs to make you want to stay on the couch and just read a book with a cup of tea :)

Ever since I moved to Houston, I've heard stories of this awesome little sandwhich shop that has these sandwhiches that were less than $3, cash only, but like no other sandwhichs at any other place. Ooo, I thought. Well, a year later, I finally ventured out to go find this sandwhich shop and turns out... it's a chain! And Lee*s not only has the delicious vietnamese-style sandwhiches that I grew up with, but also all kind of other Vietnamese goodies!
Nick and I went recently to get our fix and noticed their new baggies! They print recylcing ideas on their bags! Genius! Way to go Lee*s!
Whenever we go to the park, there's always a doggie or four that take a likeing to harrasing Wilson. A lot of butt sniffing and a lot of 'mounting' happening shortly there after. Of course, the owners of the other dogs apologize and pull their little fur snaussages away, but they always come back for more. I've just started telling people that his butt must smell like peanut butter. Not that I've smelled it, no. But we do feed him a fair amount (not really). And it seems logical - one would smell like what one eats, yeah?
Weekend trips to the park have become an early morning affair. It's still in the 90's well past 10pm at night and it's already 85 before the sun is fully up. That means afternoon walkies become a painful affair for the whole pack.
While I was in Pittsburgh, I missed my younger brother's graduation from medical school. My little brother - not so little anymore - is now married and on his way to enjoying one of the greatest dreams our parents had for their children. I felt really bad that I couldn't be there, but luckily for me (I'm being totally selfish here), he had two ceremonies. One Phd, one MD.
It was amazing standing there witih him as he smiled at the barrage of cameras pointed at him and posed with the many combination of family members for his special moment. I realized it wasn't just this moment. It has been the past 8 years. In that time, he's kept up with a high school friend who was always there for him. He's found the woman of his dreams with the biggest heart, who I can tell will take very good care of him. He's made use of his handiman skills to fix up his condo. He bought a Ducati... and kept it secret for who knows how long. And he achieved the highest of goals our parents set for us nearly 35 years ago when they set foot in this country: that their children would be successful.
All in all, my brother's pretty great. I'm almost positive he's forgotten that I was responsible for him falling on his head. At least twice. I blame his socks... and the ET big wheel. I'm gonna miss him, even more than I do already, as he takes off to start the more exciting part of his life. In the end, I guess, I am most grateful that he's finally taken off that pressure for the rest of us to be great. :) Thanks, bro.
I almost forgot to mention, my fabulous ASME roomie also brought back some delicious tea from France. She's such a doll. Mariage Freres has a very nice calming flavor with a hint of cinnamon. Not only did it come in a very shiny black patent looking bag, it has it's own box and the tea sachets are even hand tied! Thank you M!! You're the greatest!
Edit: Doing a little googling I found out that Mariage Freres is where Japan Airlines gets their tea for their First Class passengers. Nicholas and I are very familiar with Japan Airlines... and I can tell you that even as a regular passenger, you feel like you're flying first class, so we can only imagine...
I really enjoy a good cup of tea and could not be more excited that M thought to bring me 'The Best Tea in the World'! I think that might be something I'll have to start collecting - really good tea. :)
Nicholas as smiley happy as he can be... there's nothing like watching a world wide sporting event with a lawn full of other fans... it was good times. McDonald's gave out free java frappes, there were free t-shirts and bangy balloon thingies.
I was totally cheesed to have my picture taken with Diesel!
We met a guy who was traveling to S. Africa later on in the week to watch the games in person! Talk about a real socer fan! These guys also brought a replica WC ball to kick around at half time. Love it!
We were ready!! The Dynamo held a viewing party at Discovery Green downtown!
Standing for the anthem... before we got all crispy from the sun!
Munkie didn't make it out to the meetings - it's not really his bag. He did make it for a photo op with the Franco Harris statue in the airport - there was also a life sized statue of George Washington there, too. But life-sized-George is kinda big and a little creepy so we opted to be satisfied with this one :D
My friend Matthew from Canada found me at the reception before The Dinner. He was gracious enough to be my 'date' for the reception. :) The dress is an older one I picked up for a wedding, the pashmina is a gift from my well traveled boss, the freshwater pearls a souviner from San Francisco - courtesy of my mom, wristlet by Coach... and the shoes:
Christian Louboutin Rubinova's. A rare and exciting find. I had been looking forward to wearing these beauties and this was the perfect occassion.
There was a Macy's just across the street from where we were staying and we stopped in to do some shopping. It's what we do - we shop. It was a great bonding experience. It was there that we discovered that we have this thing for black and white dresses. So here we are in our black and white, the nerdy glasses, hair pulled back. I had bangs, too, but decided I should make an effort to look a little different. :D
We went out the other night and I threw on black t-shirt, my skully fingerless gloves, and my kitty ear hat I picked up in San Francisco... so today, my roomate comes back from her shopping excersion with this!! A skully bowhead coinpurse! Totally awesome!
Two years ago, I met little Miss Thing, aka Marianne. This year we'll be rooming at the Omni Penn in Pittsburgh for the ASME Annual Meeting. The greatest thing (other than volunteering my time and efforts for the benefit of the Society) is meeting people and making new *best* friends. Yaaay!
My little sister celebrates another 'still under 30' birthday today! Back when we used to do road trips, we had to distract her from the scenery as we headed back home...or she would put on an award winning pout. Good times. Happy birthday, Phu!
The Entrance to Chinatown... deals to be had in just about every store. I'm also told, the deeper into Chinatown you go, the better bargains you can find!
