This year Christmas was spent with family, both Nicholas' and part of mine. Lots of good food to be had, with the special cheese ball, Uncle John's pecan pie of deliciousness, my dad's Prime Rib, and fast disappearing but so crunchy good Aunt Carmen's peanut brittle. Surprisingly, not a lot of poundage accumulated thanks in part to the Wii!
From what I've come to understand from Nicholas' family and friends, Christmas isn't complete without the extra yummy ball of cheese painstakingly handcrafted by his childhood friend, Skitch. Painstakingly handcrafted as Skitch is not lactose friendly. But far worse off than myself. I enjoy the cheese - the tummy hurts afterward, but it is bearable and totally worth the deliciousness. Totally.

My friends Judy & Allen bought a house earlier this year and we finally got together for a little housewarming, good food, and unwinding time with friends. Their house is complete with secret hiding places and a huge patio out back for what I think should be a hot tub... but a good bbq would work, too!!
We were lucky enough to catch
Cyrus Chestnut when he came to Houston last Friday courtesy of the Houstonist! I remember my dad watching all the Charlie Brown specials with us on TV when we were little. The Charlie Brown specials were always a momentous occasion at our house. And if we missed them, dad had them on VHS so we could watch them anyway. Good times.
Nicholas made the grand discovery of
Build-A-Bear Cake pans in the Williams and Sonoma Holiday 2008 catalog!
These are just too adorable! I can totally see making one of these for my birthday!
Josiah, Lori, Nicholas and I went to see the
Rockets play the Hawks last night! Still amazes me how absolutely huge Yao is. I finally got me a jersey - number 11 - my favorite number. It helps that it's Yao's number. Asian connection and all. Most fun part of the night, besides the 2 pound bag of cotton candy Nicholas bought me, was the mini Clutch mascot!
With theBigDay™ in planning, we've been looking around for ideas to help make everything more memorable and hassle-free. One of my friends tied their knot a couple of months ago and had found an awesome alternative to those dreaded registries:
honeyfund.com! It's a neat way to register for a honeymoon trip and receive cash gifts for the adventure instead of ending up with two bowl mixers and a stack of bathtowels that for some reason don't match.
I totally forgot to post this last month! Nicholas and I met up with CJ and Jenny at the Renaissance Festival for their Halloween weekend. Since Jenny had her camera out and clickin, we let her do most of the photography. Turns out, not only can she shoot a camera, she's quite the bow and arrow champion.
Pictures here... and here!
a purple christmas
Originally uploaded by Tygriss. This was our tree from last year. Our white and purple Christmas tree. It just happens to be our favorite color. And last year there were tons of awesome purple ornaments on sale!
Since the holidays started, the picture's been getting lots of google hits. I guess purple's going to be the hot color again this year.
The year before, the stores were filled with black and silver - so we did black and red (Texas Tech colors). This year, I think we'll go back to the black and red. Or maybe more red than black. The stores always have red. A quick stop at Target over the Turkey break showed us that silvery blue is going to be in season this season. I love blue, but I don't think I have room for more ornaments
